About Doris
Doris is a retired home economics teacher from Conroe and Spring ISD and a grandmother of four. She has been teaching pottery to children and adults for over 7 years. It brings her great pleasure teaching people how to do something they enjoy.
Doris is inspired by the beauty of nature that surrounds her. Her pottery reflects that beauty. She loves the feel of the clay, the textures of pottery, and building something with her own hands. To continue learning new techniques and refine her pottery skills, she has studied at the Potters Wheel, taken classes at Lone Star College, and attended pottery workshops. Doris started out as a functional potter in low-fire clay. She has progressed on to hi-fire clay and more of art style of pottery such as platters, birdbaths, and wall hangings.
Being a tactile person, knitting goes along with pottery for Doris. It has its own unique feel and textures. For the past 13 years, she has attended knitting camps twice a year to continue learning new techniques. She enjoys creating.
